It's been a long time since we last updated our site and we thought we were long overdue. Much has happened since early 2009 and we are happy to make some public announcements about the progress of the Spencer County / Taylorsville Lake - Possum Ridge Disc Golf Course.

Since the addition of our newest team member, Scott Ringham, new Park Manager of the Taylorsville Lake State Park, much has changed for the better.

A new location has been designated at Possum Ridge giving easier access to the potential course with less maintenance. Already most of the area has been mowed and Dave Greenwell, course designer, is making plans to begin course design in September.

A board of directors has been established for the new Possum Ridge Disc Golf Club (PRDGC) with the following serving as officers:
Rik Downs - President
Scott Ringham - Vice President
Aimee Downs - Treasurer
Michael Waits - Secretary
Bill Drury - Public Relations Spokesperson

The board has established the club bylaws (see above tab) and is currently in the process of registering themselves with the State to be approved as a non-profit organization.

Also, the ARMY has volunteered man hours and equipment to help construct the new course once designed. They will be coming in and clearing out any and all obstacles that stand in the way according to the State Park Manager and Army Corps of Engineers.

With all this exciting news, Spencer County is hopeful to see a new course by Spring 2011.

We're Moving Forward!

We are pleased to announce that the Kentucky State Parks Department has approved our proposal to build a disc golf course at the Possum Ridge location at the Taylorsville Lake State Park.

"The project has been approved but with stipulations," said Bill Drury. We currently have very little information regarding what these stipulations consist of but we know that we will have to provide them with even more information before moving forward.

As you are well aware, the economy is tight right now and state departments are cutting back in great measures. The Spencer County Disc Golf Course committee will be meeting very soon to discuss in further detail extensive course design plans and overall structure layouts.

To ensure the continuation of our progress we need your help more than ever. It will require volunteer labor, public donations, and team work to make this successful. If you would like to commit yourself to volunteer time and/or donations, please email your name and commitment to us so that we can generate a list showing our growing support.

State Meeting Success

On Monday, Dec. 29th, we met with state officials in Frankfort to discuss our plans for a future disc golf course in Spencer County.

We were pleased to have been able to meet with the representatives for the state and parks system and greatly valued the time they gave to us. The presentation was given to discuss the impact a disc golf course could have in the local park system, local economy, community, and disc golfers within as much of 50 miles radius and greater. We also focused on why the Possum Ridge location of the Taylorsville Lake State Park is the best location to put in 2 - 18 hole disc golf courses at a professional level and why we believe this will be one of the many major attractions to this State Park.

At the close of the meeting we were told they would be meeting with us within 30 days but we are hopeful to hear something from them before that time. It's not too late to send them a letter explaining why you believe adding a disc golf course to the Taylorsville Lake State Park is a great idea. As Magistrate Bill Drury once said, "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it!"

On Monday, December 29 several of us representing the Spencer County Disc Golf Course will be taking a trip to Frankfort to present our request for the state's approval of building a disc golf course at the Possum Ridge State Park in Spencer County. We are very excited about this recent development and looking forward to our meeting with those representing the state.

What can you do to help? You can write a letter to any of our state officials explaining your enthusiasm for a new course in Spencer County encouraging them to become part of making this a reality.

This Christmas we're asking Santa for a new disc golf course!

We're Growing!

In just a few short days the Possum Ridge Disc Golf Club has grown to 11 members. We remain to be excited about the publicity we continue to recieve regarding this great endeavor to bring disc golf to Spencer County and are looking forward to our next presentation in Frankfort.

What can you do to help? Spread the news! Tell your family and friends about the PRDGC everytime you talk to them. The more excitement we generate the more we enhance disc golf as the "fastest growing sport in the nation."

Welcome to the temporary site of the upcoming Spencer County Disc Golf Club, soon to be know as the Possum Ridge Disc Golf Club.

We are excited about what is happening right here in Spencer County, Kentucky. You can read more about it in the article link posted to the right, but Spencer County is currently pursuing the addition of a 36 hole championship disc golf course at the Possum Ridge location of the Taylorsville Lake State Park! This course will be designed by Dave Greenwell and there are great expectations that this will be the best course in Kentucky if not the nation! We dream big.
